Ponds, waves and dragons that flow past the seams

Koi and wave motifs were designed to flow — they were painted across screens and scrolls, not stamped into a square. A print that stops at the chest breaks the one thing that makes them work.
These run over the shoulders and around the back, so the current keeps moving as you do. Reactive dye on 100% cotton: the ink is inside the fibre, the fabric stays soft, and the deep indigo doesn't turn to grey after a month. Irezumi-style collages, still ponds, seigaiha arcs and rising-sun compositions.
